Happy Timkat

Our December and January are full of special days and holidays. So full that our final Christmas decorations came down just last week. Today we celebrated the Ethiopian holiday of Timkat or the baptism of Jesus. Here's a short blurb from National Geographic about Timkat.
We saw the video on Ethiopia from which this segment came before we traveled. As it so happens, we were actually in Ethiopia three years ago on Timkat. It was such a special time because it is the biggest holiday for the Ethiopian Orthodox Church. Not to mention that fact that the next day we were able to hold our little ones for the first time.

We didn't do a huge celebration this year, but I wanted to acknowledge the day with Josiah and Alexandra. God definitely worked out the details for me because we had two baptisms at church this Sunday. They were able to see a baptism and our pastor talked about what it means to be baptized.
Today, we talked about Jesus' baptism. We also talked about Ethiopia and how the church there celebrates the day. In honor of that, we gave both the kids umbrellas. (Watch the above video if our choice of gifts doesn't make sense.)
They were so excited and couldn't wait to show Grandma.
They can be left white or decorated and Alexandra was very excited to hear that she could paint her umbrella.
The Carpenters wish you a very happy Timkat!
