Sewing for Boys

When they were just wee ones, Josiah and Alexandra both received equal mama sewing time. I made them each a pair of baby shoes and lots of diaper covers, but as they have gotten older, I've found my pile of to-sew for Alexandra is much bigger than for Josiah. I felt guilty about that for a while until I until I realized, there are just more options for sewing for girls than there are for boys. Boys wear shirts and pants each.and.every.day. I have found though that there are some cute options for boys.
I hadn't thought about appliquéing for boys until I saw this cute robot tee giveaway at Grosgrain. Josiah saw the robot and knew right away what it was. I'll have to get thinking about other things I can applique for him. I love him in collared shirts, so that's probably where I'll start, we'll see.

I also just discovered a great resource for sewing for both boys and girls, www.ottobredesign.com. I know, where have I been. They have their catalogs online, where you can browse their designs. Most of their clothes look pretty simple and quite possible to duplicate on your own. I like the guitar from the Summer 3/2010 catalog and I think I will have to add it to my list of sewing projects for Josiah.

My current projects in the works are: t-shirts waiting to be freezer paper stenciled, an eddie cap, a three-piece pin-stripped suit, and boy's beach pants. I'll keep you posted as I get these done.

That robot is so cute, I love sewing projects too. Can't wait to see what you come up with. The freezer paper stencil looks too consuming for me, but I do like appliques.
