Memorial Day Celebrations

Every Memorial Day, there is a parade in our town. The fire trucks, the mayor, the marching band, the scouts, and the veterans come out to celebrate the day.
Our family also comes out to support this man:
Gabe's grandfather who fought in World War II
Then we attend the remembrance ceremony in the town square. The kids liked singing, but the 21 gun salute scared them. And me for that matter and here I was warning them about the loud noise coming.
Of course, with any parade, there is candy. Alexandra enjoyed her stash. She graciously shared with mama. She's such a little sweetheart and so giving.
We get very few opportunities for a family picture, so we snapped a few in front of the fountain. This is the best one. Sad, I know. I have had little luck getting my two toddlers to pose for pictures.  I guess I'll stick to the candid shots for a while.
The picture of our extended family (on Gabe's side) came out better. We're a good looking group if I do say so myself.
I saw this star part hair on another blog and knew that I wanted to do that for Alexandra's hair. I'm happy with the way it came out. The star is a little hard to see, especially with the hair band, but she was very happy to have beads to swing again.
She's getting much more patient with mama doing her hair. This style took about an hour and she didn't complain once. (The movie that I bribed her with let her watch probably helped too.)
It was a hot day, so we hung out at Nana's pool in the afternoon after naps. These little ones are water babies. They love being in the water and are fearless.
Josiah doesn't like getting water in his eyes, but loved seeing Nana's foster girl go under again and again.
We ended the day at home, playing with our flags.  The kids would run up and down the side walk, then sling their flags over their shoulders singing "Hi, ho, hi, ho, it's off to work we go."
What two little cuties I have!  So what about you?  How did you spend your Memorial Day?

How wonderful! Great family pictures and a wonderful parade. That's a great way to spend Memorial Day.

I love the hair style you did, and the red, white and blue beads and bows. How cute. It wasn't Memorial Day here in England but it was indeed in my heart.
