Happy Earth Day

Because we went to the zoo today. The kids and I didn't do a lot toward celebrating Earth Day. We did read this book:This one was borrowed from the library, but it's going onto our "to purchase" list because I liked I Love Our Earth so much. The pictures are beautiful with a combination of wonderful landscapes and children of all cultures and skin tone. The verse is short and sweet with concepts like colors, opposites, and the seasons. If I don't purchase it, I know this is a book we'll be getting out of the library again.

We talked a little about Earth Day and the things we already do to help preserve the environment then sang an "Earth" song that I found here (page 4).

E‐A‐R‐T‐H (sung to “B‐I‐N‐G‐O”)
We all live on the great big planet and Earth is it’s name‐o
E‐A‐R‐T‐H
E‐A‐R‐T‐H
E‐A‐R‐T‐H
And Earth is it’s name‐o
We all live on the great big planet and Earth is it’s name‐o
(clap) ‐A‐R‐T‐H
(clap) ‐A‐R‐T‐H
(clap) ‐A‐R‐T‐H
And Earth is it’s name‐o
etc.

Like many toddlers, we love anything that includes singing and especially movement, so this was a good one for today. I'm constantly on the lookout for good children's songs especially ones that help children learn and remember things. I would love any recommendations you have. Josiah loves anything upbeat. He is my rock and roller.

Have a Happy Earth Day everyone!
